Controlled Delivery.
Pelletization is a formulation process that converts powders, granules, or drug-loaded systems into uniform, free-flowing spherical or near-spherical multiparticulate units using technologies such as extrusion–spheronization, layering, and fluid-bed processing.
Transforming Liposomal Technology into a Versatile Multiparticulate Platform
Liposomal pellets bring together two powerful formulation technologies—phospholipid-based encapsulation and multiarticulate drug delivery. By incorporating an active ingredient into a liposomal system and converting it into engineered pellet units, WBCIL creates a flexible platform designed to address key formulation challenges such as poor stability, low dissolution, unpleasant taste, gastrointestinal intolerance, and controlled-release requirements.
Why Liposomal Pellets?
Liposomal pellets are designed to deliver more formulation flexibility and greater control than conventional powder or tablet formats.
- Protect sensitive actives through phospholipid-based encapsulation
- Optimize release profiles through matrix systems and functional coatings
- Improve taste masking for minerals, vitamins, and other challenging actives
- Support formulation stability and active protection
- Enhance dissolution and dispersion characteristics
- Enable multiarticulate delivery with flexible dose presentation
- Adapt to application-specific requirements through customized formulation design
- Support convenient formats such as capsules, sachets, sprinkle products, and multiarticulate tablets
From Liposome to Engineered Pellet
Our development approach integrates liposomal science, palletization technology, and functional coating systems into a single formulation platform.
The liposomal system is first optimized for critical characteristics such as particle size, PDI, zeta potential, encapsulation efficiency, phospholipid content, and active loading. The optimized system is then converted into uniform pellet units using suitable palletization technologies.
Through matrix formation, layering, and functional polymer coating, the final pellets can be engineered for:
Immediate Release | Delayed Release | Enteric Release | Sustained Release
This allows the same active ingredient to be developed into different delivery profiles according to the customer’s formulation and application requirements.
Designed for Challenging Actives
Liposomal pellets can be explored for a broad range of pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and health-oriented ingredients, including:
Minerals • Vitamins • Antioxidants • Botanical Actives • Functional Ingredients
The platform is particularly valuable when conventional dosage forms face challenges involving taste, stability, dissolution, release control, or gastrointestinal performance.

QbD-Driven Formulation Development
At WBCIL, liposomal pellet development follows a structured Quality by Design (QbD) approach. We evaluate the relationship between Critical Material Attributes (CMAs), Critical Process Parameters (CPPs), and Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs) to systematically optimize formulation and process performance.
This approach enables us to develop application-specific pellet systems with defined targets for encapsulation, pellet characteristics, coating performance, release behavior, stability, and overall product quality.
